Sunday 29th July 2012

Paul Richardson (Harrogate) spoke tonight. He asked the question how can we be happy? A happiness survey has recently been published that measures the level of people's happiness but this survey did not look at how people can be happy from a spiritual perspective. The Bible has something to tell us about happiness. Proverbs 3 v. 13 tells us that the man who finds wisdom is happy. How do we find wisdom? Proverbs 9 v. 10 goes on to say that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Proverbs also tells us in Ch. 16 v. 20 the man who trusts in the Lord is happy. In order to be saved, spiritually speaking, we must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. First we seek God, then we find Him, after that trust Him and then we are asked to obey. This is the formula for real happiness.

The Preaching of the Cross (Sunday 22nd July)

Jim Locke (Leeds) preached from 1 Corinthians Chapter 1 Verse 18. He had four questions: Was the cross really necessary?; Is the cross relevant for today?; Does it affect us presently?; and Does it give us hope? The answer to all these questions is yes, according to the Bible. There is no salvation without sacrifice and we can not be saved without the cross. Jesus came to die for our sin that we might be saved through faith in Him. Our faith depends upon a person who died, and who has risen again to be a living Saviour.

Sunday 15th July

Philip Kaye (Skelmanthorpe) preached the gospel. His reading were Luke Ch. 13 vs. 31-33, John Ch. 8 vs. 28, 29, and John Ch. 14 vs. 1-6. Philip spoke about Jesus, God's Son, who came into the world to be our Saviour. Jesus always please God, and by his life showed how sinful we are. He was crucified on a cross at Jerusalem. Why? He came to die for our sins. We are faced with the choice to either accept Jesus as our Saviour or reject Him. Jesus will not turn away anyone who comes to Him.

Sunday 08/07/2012

Gareth Crossley (Blackbrook) read John Ch. 13 vs 1-17. His theme was identity, where we came from, who we are and where we are going. Jesus knew His identity, that He came from God the Father and was going back to God the Father but first He must die on a cross for our sin. We were created by God, our purpose is to love, worship and serve God, and if we believe on Jesus we will go home to be with him in heaven. The alternative is to be judged and not allowed to enter God's presence were there is love, joy and peace forevermore.
