Gospel Meeting - Sunday 27th January 2013

Speaker: Jason Stewart

Reading: 1 Corinthians Ch. 9 vs. 24-27

Topic: Running The Race

Jason spoke on running the Christian race and asked four questions:

1) How can I enter the race?
Just as athletes have to get rid of the rubbish in their lives if they are to compete in the Olympics we too have to get rid of the spiritual rubbish in our lives, which the Bible calls sin. The Bible says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans Ch. 3 v. 23)

2)When should I enter the race?
Now! The Bible says "Behold now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians Ch. 6 v. 2)

3) What if I don't enter the race?
God will be your judge and punish you for your sin. The Bible says, "He that believes on the Son has life, but he that does not believe the Son shall not see life and the wrath of God abides on him." (John Ch 3 v. 36)

4) What are the rewards for entering the race?
God will reward us if we remain faithful to him on earth. Ephesians Ch. 1 v. 3 says "Blessed be the God and Father or our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places." God promises us much more than physical blessings but spiritual ones as well including eternal life with Him.

Sunday 20th January 2013

Speaker: Gordon Robshaw

Reading:
Exodus Ch.12 vs.3-14
Hebrews Ch.2 vs.6-10

God commands that we repent and turn to Him, placing our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son Jesus to die on a cross for our sins. We can know forgiveness from our sins if we believe in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans Ch. 6 v.23).

Sunday 13th January

Speaker:
Jonathan Gibson (Harrogate)

Readings:
Mark Ch. 5 vs. 38-43
Luke Ch.7 vs. 11-16
John Ch. 11 vs. 39-46

Jonathan spoke about three miracles of Jesus raising people back to life. This is a picture of the spiritual life Jesus can give to all those who come to Him. He can deliver us from spiritual death and give us eternal life if we believe on Him.
1) Mark 5 - Jesus told a man whose daughter was dying, "Do not be afraid, only believe." Jesus then went on to raise her from the dead.
2) Luke 7 - Jesus met a woman whose son had died and told her, "Do not weep." He raised her son back to life.
3) John 11 - Jesus told a sister whose brother had died, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
Martha replied: " Yes Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world."
Jesus again showed His power over death by raising her brother from the dead.

Sunday 6th January 2012

Speaker: Laurence Jones
Readings: Leviticus Ch. 23 vs. 23-44
John Ch. 7 vs. 1-15, 25-39

Jesus said in John Ch 7 v 37 "If anyone thirsts let him come to Me and drink..."

This is an invitation to everyone to receive spiritual life, for Jesus was speaking in a spiritual sense.

Those who receive this spiritual life must be aware of their need, their thirst. People need to realise their need before God before He can help them.

It is Jesus we come to, it is He who offers us the invitation.

He is qualified to save us because He is God revealed to us in human flesh.

Jesus when He was on the cross said, "I thirst". This is the one who could satisfy the thirst of the whole world and He is thirsty. Why? It is because He was receiving the punishment for the sin of the whole world upon the cross. Receive Him and drink from His fountain and you will never thirst spiritually again.
