Sunday 25th March

Alex Collins (Ossett) read Galatians Ch. 4 vs. 4-5: But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law...
Jesus was born into this world in Bethlehem, Israel, as the prophets had predicted. He came at the right time, in the days of the Roman empire, when His message could spread throughout the empire and to the known parts of the world in a short time. His reason for coming was to endure a life of humility, suffering and death that he could bear our sins on the cross that He might bring us back to God. Jesus is coming a second time to receive His people; are you ready to meet Him?

Bruce Clark from Scarborough compared the selfish life to the generous life, grabbing vs. giving. The more we try to hold on to something the less we enjoy but the divine principle is the more we give away the more we have. It is more blessed to give than to receive. Bruce read the story of the feeding of the five thousand in John Chapter 6. A little boy had some loaves and fishes. By giving them to Jesus, Jesus was able to feed five thousand people in need, far more than just satisfying the hunger of one little boy. God gave His Son for us as a sacrifice for sin on the cross that we can know forgiveness and eternal riches in heaven.

Steven Clegg (Killamarsh) talked about two men, a blind man in John Chapter 9 and a demon possessed man in Mark Chapter 5. Both needed help and Jesus met them in their need. The blind man took Jesus at His word, he had faith, and as a result his sight was restored. The demon possessed man had his demons removed when Jesus commanded them to go. All who knew these two men were amazed at the changes in them after they met Jesus. We are born blinded to our need of God and are under the power of the ruler of this world, Satan. Jesus has the power to give us spiritual sight and free us from anything that has control over us.

Sunday 4th March

Philip Gibson (Cutsyke) read 1 Samuel Chapter 4 about the ark of the Lord being captured from the Philistines. He spoke on troubled days. Israel suffered two defeats at the hands of the Philistines. 30,000 men were killed in the second battle and the ark of the Lord was captured. Israel had forsaken God, which was why they suffered such a heavy defeat. The Lord's presence had left the ark and it provided no protection for the people. Have we neglected the things of God? A close relationship with God is essential in the Christian life and without it we will not know victory. God gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
