Sunday 16th December

Readings: Philippians Ch 2. vs 5-11 / Luke Ch 2. vs 1-21.
Bruce Clark (Scarborough) spoke on the birth of Jesus and how God became a 'vulnerable' baby. In the animal world the wounded, vulnerable animal becomes the hunted. In our world men are expected to be strong and not to show signs of vulnerability.
Q. What does the birth of Jesus tell us?
- it tells us about God's influential power; He does not force us to believe in Him but He shows us how much He loves us by becoming like us.
- He emptied himself (Philippians Ch 2. v. 7), giving everything up for us.
- He declared Himself to be something completely opposite to what the world stands for, by becoming vulnerable He demonstrated strength and victory through weakness and seeming defeat.
