Gospel Meeting 11/08/2019

Matthew’s Gospel ch22 vs1 – 7

Here, The Lord Jesus Christ tells a parable about a marriage feast.
Weddings are happy occasions, and as with this one many were invited to the banquet. The king sent his servants to personally say to those invited “come”.
However, they refused the invite, and worse still some of the servants were killed.
The king was understandably wrath and great calamity came upon those who were responsible for their actions.

Friend, God is personally inviting you also to “come” unto Him this evening.

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool”
-  Isaiah ch1 vs18

“now” is emphasized, because no – one is ever assured of having a tomorrow…

It is a most sad fact that sin is so often openly laughed at by people today.
Most of the world has largely forgotten about the holiness of God and turned against Him. Hearts have become so hardened towards Him and rebellion against His holy ways is rife.
However, sin is deadly – and our full graveyards testify to this.

“And the LORD God commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die”
-  Genesis ch2 vs16 – 17

Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate of the tree - sin and death had entered in.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned…”
-  Romans ch5 vs12

We are all affected in the same way and God makes it very clear –
“And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement”
-  Hebrew’s ch9 vs27

After our earthly life ends, we have an eternal state. Each person that ever lived will be found in either Heaven or Hell forever. No sin can ever enter into His presence, but Heaven is where you are graciously invited to come - God has made a way for us sinners to be forgiven and reconciled unto Him. God abhors sin, but loves the sinner.

God’s plan was formed before the beginning of time – the Lamb of God that would be sacrificed for our sins was foreordained.
“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold… But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you”
-  1st Peter ch1 vs18 – 20

In His great love, God sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world, and He laid down His sinless life on The Cross at Calvary. He gave His blood that we can all be forgiven through having personal faith in Jesus Christ and repenting of our sinful way of life.

Many people put things off until a later time, but God always bids you to come now!
In His Word, God tells you about yourself and Himself.  When The Lord Jesus Christ met the Samaritan woman at the well, (John’s Gospel ch4) He knew her innermost secrets.
The Lord knows our hearts, and they are all marked by sin.
“… for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart”
-  1st Samuel ch16 vs7

The Lord Jesus Christ is unique! He is absolutely sinless and born of a virgin. He came here with one view – to be the Saviour of sinners.
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins”
-  Matthew’s Gospel ch1 vs21

God still want you to come and reason with Him tonight, dear friend.
“Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did…”
-  John’s Gospel ch4 vs29

“… we have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. And Nathaniel said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see”
-  John’s Gospel ch1 vs45 – 46

Will you tonight come and see this most wonderful Saviour?
At Calvary’s Cross, God’s supreme love was shown for all people. The Creator of the universe and more, laid down His life to pay for all our sins. Without the sacrifice of The Lord Jesus Christ we would all be heading for a lost eternity in that most awful place.
For those who reject Him and are separated from God, they will be conscious forever that they missed the opportunity of accepting His offer of forgiveness through The Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ knew He was going to suffer greatly at the hands of wicked men and in being made sin for us, but never swayed from going to that cruel Cross.

1.
How matchless is God’s wondrous love!
He gave His Son from Heav’n above,
That none should perish who believe,
But everlasting life receive.

It was for me; it was for me,
The Saviour died on Calvary;
Salvation full, at highest cost,
God’s “Whosoever” saves the lost.

2.
Herein is love, ‘tis love indeed;
A love that meets our deepest need,
A love that passes human thought,
He loved us when we loved Him not.

3.
To sinners lost, our God commends
His perfect love, which never ends;
The death of Christ that love has shown;
Was love so wondrous ever known?

4.
His love dismisses all our fear,
And to Himself He brings us near;
The Father’s house we soon shall see,
To dwell in love eternally.
(Hymn by I. Fleming)

Parents pass on their genes, i.e. – blue eyes, long legs, maybe a crooked nose! Adam passed down his sin.
“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me”
-  Psalm ch51 vs5

There is Salvation in none other.
Friend, what will you do with God’s Son who paid your great debt of sin?
Please accept this blessed Man of Calvary tonight, if you have not already done so.
The two thieves who were crucified either side of The Lord, chose different eternal destinations. One repented, trusting Jesus Christ as His Lord and Saviour, and went to Heaven. The other was unrepentant, disbelieving, and went to a terrible lost eternity.

1.
Face to face with Christ my Saviour,
Face to face, what will it be,
When with rapture I behold Him,
Jesus Christ who died for me?

Face to face, shall I behold Him,
Far beyond the starry sky;
Face to face in all His glory
I shall see Him bye and bye!

2.
Only faintly now I see Him,
With the darkening veil between,
But a blessed day is coming,
When His glory shall be seen

3.
What rejoicing in His presence,
When are banished grief and pain;
When the crooked ways are straightened,
And the dark things shall be plain.

4.
Face to face! oh, blissful moment!
Face to face, to see and know;
Face to face with my Redeemer,
Jesus Christ, who loves me so.
(Hymn by C. E. Breck)
