Gospel Meeting 15/11/2015

Mr. Brian Nixon spoke from John 19 vs.14-30.
"Were you there when they crucified my Lord."
The Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus showed the height of love for sinners, history hinges around it and there is nothing to parallel His death.
He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
God's mercy - a way back to God - peace and forgiveness.
The soldiers were there.
The crowd were there.
The religious leaders were there.
The women were there.
John was there.
"Were you there when they crucified my Lord."

Soldiers.
Psalm 22 vs.18  They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
They mocked, scourged, spat, pushed a crown of thorns on His head, and cast lots.
Then "Truly this was the Son of God." None are too far gone to be saved.
"Were you there when they crucified my Lord."

Crowd.
Isaiah 53 vs.3  He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Came to see a spectacle, never man spake like this man, save yourself.
"Were you there when they crucified my Lord."

Religious leaders.
Mark 15 vs.31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
Only by dying on the cross could He save us. Religion without the death of Jesus Christ is empty and useless.
"Were you there when they crucified my Lord."

Women.
John 19 vs25  Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
Their faith was weak, their hopes were faded but they were there out of love for Him.
"Were you there when they crucified my Lord."

John.
John 19 vs.26  When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
John stood with Jesus and identified himself with Him.
Galatians 6 vs.14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
"Were you there when they crucified my Lord."

What does the cross mean to you?
As a Christian we are out of step with the world and it's values, but we should be in step with God and His values.

1 Corinthians 1 vs.23  But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24  But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26  For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27  But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28  And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29  That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30  But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31  That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
